Aurangabad Introduction
AurangabadAurangabad has a number of attractions and could easily stand on its own were it not overshadowed by the famous EIlora and Ajanta caves nearby. The city is named after Aurangzeb. Sai Baba of Shirdi. 126 kms from Aurangabad, popularly known as the 'Child of God,' Sai Baba preached tolerance towards all religions and the message of universal brotherhood. Every activity at Shirdi revolves around the vast temple complex dedicated to Sai Baba. Devotees start queuing up in the early hours of dawn to catch a glimpse and seek the blessings of the life-size statue of Sai Baba.

Tourist Attractions in Aurangabad
§ Ajanta Caves
Ajanta CavesThrough sheer grace rather than flamboyance. He exudes gentleness and kind of divine innocence. Clearly a fastidious prince, he is depicted delicately holding the fragile blue lotus, his head bent sideways as if the weight of his ornate, jewelled crown is too heavy for his head. His half closed eyes give me an air of meditation, almost of shyness.
§ Ellora Caves
Ellora CavesEllora, 66 kms away from Ajanta caves, first appears to the visitors as an irregular ridge of rockrising vertically from the ground. Access to Ellora is very easy, but like Ajanta its true splendour lies concealed within. Ellora represents some three hundred years of great experiments carried out by different faiths with their very different iconography and structural compulsions.
§ Panchakki
PanchakkiPanchakki (Water Wheel) takes its name from the mill that, in its days, was considered a marvel of engineering. Driven by water brought through earthen pipes from the river 6km away, the mill once ground grain for pilgrims. The mill it self is to the right of the first tank as you enter. It is also the shrine of a saint, Baba Shah Musafir.
§ Bibi ka Maqbara
Bibi ka MaqbaraBibi Ka Maqbara is the tomb of Begum Rabia Durani, wife of Emperor Aurangazeb. The monument is an excellent example of Persian Architecture. The arched aclove surmounted by a swelling dome, the idea had acquired its own reputation in India. Bibi Ka Maqbara is considered to be a poor imitation of Taj Mahal in Agra.
